The Skyline's studio blog
First demo on the way
Summer went by and The Skyline thought that they were done with their line-up issues when suddenly their new guitarist had to quit before he even had a good start.
It was clear what to do next: Demo will be recorded as planned, Janne (guitar, vocals) will do all the guitar parts. After the demo is out it's a lot easier to start looking for a new members as potential guitarists can hear what's up with the band and how the playing sounds like. It's important to have a new member that shares the same passion with same kind of music than the rest of the band.
Recording this demo is, in many ways, a challenge to the band and all of its members. It's most of all just practicing for the next release. The plans are made aiming further than just this fall.

February 22nd - The Skyline, Final studio blog
One more time: Hello!
So… I really don't have much to say, because everything is done. We are satisfied of what we are hearing from our speakers! We have some things going at the moment. Being specific, gigs! If you're interested to see us playing live, check the dates along the spring and summer at www.myspace.com/theskylinesounds. And of course later too!
We want to thank John Doe Web and especially Joanna for giving us this change to get our voice be heard and our stupid videos get watched! We hope we will continue our cooperation and that we could do something for Joanna 'cause she has been sooo nice to us!
The future: We will be writing new, harder and moshful stuff this spring and as I mentioned earlier, hopefully playing some shows. Later this year we will be putting out an EP or a new demo, so stay tuned!
Thanks for everyone! Hopefully you got something out of this. It was so much fun doing this blog.

Things are really getting somewhere: Guitars done, basses done. That's an update isn't it?!
I'll keep this one short cause it's almost midnight when I'm writing this and I'm tired. Aleksi edited nice and different kind on an video. The must-have funny part comes at the end so if you're not interested looking Janne doing his guitar parts over and over again, skip the first three minutes. But you should take a look Joel doing bass parts, those expressions are… Yeah, take a look.
Next thing to do: Add some synths, programmed parts and then finally vocals. Everything should be ready in two weeks. We are doing one or two more of these blogs. So keep checking out here and at www.myspace.com/theskylinesounds. You can also follow us on twitter!
Thanks you for your attention!

Hello hello!
This update consists big information about the demo! A short video about drum tracking (Janne forgot his camera so we took just some peeks with cellphone about what happened there) and mixing, cover art and tracklisting. We are sorry about the video quality. And Sami mixed the video so... It's not an artistic experience. Next one will be nicer to watch! But here's what we'd like you to check out, the cover art and track listing!

December 10th, 2009
Heyyy!
Last monday we started recording! Drums went nice and smoothly. So that's the part at the studio, everything else will be recorded by us ourselves. Order will be something like this: guitars, bass, programmed parts, synths, vocals. We are really exited to get the drums mixed and record everything else!
We've got problems with computers when recording pre-production. And the problems seem to continue. But we have options how we will make this work and get this demo done. We hope to get the tracks ready asap. Mastering process should take place in january. Clock is ticking! Next update will be about drumming / guitars or tracklisting / cover art. We'll see!

Hello!
Today it was going to happen, to start the recording. But it went different: Sami got sick on sunday. It wasn't so bad setback than the fact that Janne got sick today. Drum tracking could have been done without Sami but not without Janne. So we had to cancel.
Tomorrow we'll book a new drum tracking time and if it goes as we wish, we get to start the recording sometime in December. Meanwhile we're getting ready for a show on December 3rd! So if you live somewhere near Turku, Finland you should come and check us out at Dynamo-klubi! More information coming soon so keep checking on www.myspace.com/theskylinesounds.
We are really disappointed about this holdup but we think this will only make us do everything even better now when we get to the studio!

Hello!
Okay things are getting along: We booked drum tracking time from the studio and it's 17th of November. Until then we are practicing as always, two-three times a week. And because it's more than two weeks before we could put up a video from the drum tracking sessions, we asked our friend Petteri to come and shoot our practise. It went well! You should see it below!

What's up everyone! We are The Skyline from Turku, Finland. We were asked to have this studio blog because we are recording our very first official demo. You can hear two songs from our myspace-site but don't let them trick you: Old songs and bad quality. So if you listen to them and think "what is this?" I hope you give us another chance when this demo is done and listen again the new songs!
So let's get started! This first entry will be about the pre-production process. In a nutshell: Aleksi (drums) made drum tracks with computer to save time and money (we don't have equipments to record drums in our practicing space) and then everything else is made like it "should be", only in the mentioned practicing space. It doesn't really matter how everything is done in this point because this is meant only for us to make the songs better before really stepping into the studio; "Maybe we should change this riff a bit" or "Lets leave the bass out of that part". All this is familiar to everyone who has a band or knows something about these things, but we're not making music to musicians and we're not making this blog to them neither. So if this little prolog helped you out even a little, we're glad.
When writing this, we are almost done with every instrument. Yes, clean vocals too… It took a time but Aleksi got them right ;) Just a few lines tomorrow and we can have this "week-off" from those songs. And week after we'll get together and listen the songs one more time and take a note or few what to do different. And then… We start the real recording!!
Here's a video for you guys to watch. See you soon!
